BMW X5 doesn’t include the divisive bucktooth grille on several of its new models because it cares about what its consumers think. But the German luxury carmaker continues to play around with dubious ideas, as seen with its future Neue Klasse-based cars.
The BMW X5, one of the most attractive high-riders in its class, will follow suit; we’ve already seen prototypes of the testing. Named for their next-generation architecture, these vehicles will include the new iX3 crossover, which will go on sale the following year, and the new 3 Series.
The Vision Neue Klasse X Concept, which was presented earlier this year, clearly served as inspiration for the design of the future BMW X5. It abandoned the conventional styling in favor of a futuristic appearance. It had a completely redesigned face with a complex lighting signature, a tall and narrow kidney grille, and an aggressive bumper.
BMW also abandoned the conventional door handles in favor of subtle ones, and the back of the car isn’t particularly attractive either because the taillights are somewhat large and don’t adhere to the current sleek trend. It appears that the tailgate has a split design opening. Below that, the redesigned bumper features an angular style, integrates the license plate, and is equipped with a debatable diffuser.
In contrast to the upcoming X3, which will exclusively be offered with electric drivetrains—thus the moniker iX3—the all-new BMW X5 will be offered with internal combustion engines in addition to its customary all-electric lineup. It is certain that the tester we recently witnessed in the open would adhere to the ICE formula because its tailpipes were visible and authentic.
However, we are confident that gasoline-powered engines will be assisted by electricity in some way. We simply don’t know if it will come with a plug-in hybrid system, mild hybrid, or self-charging hybrid configuration. We’d wager on the former and the latter. When its battery is fully charged, the PHEV version should be able to provide a sizable EV range in the designated driving mode.
It’s possible that BMW hasn’t disclosed the release date for the upcoming X5. Though it will most likely make its debut in 2026 and go on sale as a 2027 model in the US, we believe the unveiling is still two years off. Therefore, the business has plenty of time to make a lot of changes, but it appears that the design was decided upon.
The BMW X5 from 2027 will resemble Kolesa’s renderings a lot. Because the digital graphics were based on real spy photos, they took a realistic approach mixed with a healthy dose of computer-generated imagery. We don’t like the design at all because the present X5 is really attractive and its replacement won’t be.
