Now that the standard models are gone, Porsche can focus on the turbo versions after giving the 911 family a mid-cycle makeover. Having said that, allow me to give a hearty congratulations to the upcoming 911 Turbo S, which was recently spotted in pre-production trim.
At the Nurburgring, this 2026 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet was spotted going about its daily business. Although the prototype has a black appearance and the same vinyl wraps for some parts, there are still some noticeable differences, even if they are not immediately obvious (it is a Porsche, after all).
Since no wrap could hide the new pattern that connects the headlamps to the rest of the 992.2 family, it is clear that they are new. Along with being new, the front bumper has updated air intakes. Now, the middle one is a bit narrower and the side ones are larger. In addition, a larger apron is visible, which makes us think that this model will have better downforce and aerodynamics.
It seems that Porsche has not updated the side skirts, or even if it did, the changes are not really noticeable. The side vents in the rear three-quarter panel that supply air to the engine work the same way. There are new reflectors, a redesigned wing, a new diffusor, a new bumper and two oval tailpipes at the rear. The test vehicle has V-shaped rear wheels and five-spoke front alloys with central locking.
Since this is still an early prototype, the roll cage and front bucket seats were added by the automaker’s engineering team, which is also in charge of developing the future 911 Turbo S. And of course the obvious safety concerns. The cockpit is barely visible through the windows, but like the rest of the 992.2 series, it should have a new 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster, better smartphone integration, and a few other goodies.
The 3.8-liter flat-six engine in the 911 Turbo S produces 640 horsepower (640 PS/477 kW) at 6,750 rpm and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque between 2,500 and 4,000 rpm. With summer tires, the 911 Turbo S Cabrio has a top speed of 205 mph (or 600 km/h). With the Sport Chrono package, it can reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.7 seconds. It can also complete the quarter-mile in 10.6 seconds, thanks to the latter bundle.
