Uncover the remarkable features of the nautical-themed land yacht Mercedes-Maybach S-Class in this exclusive guide.
Inspired by the racing yacht, this copy is a custom Mercedes-Maybach S-Class with many stylistic improvements. The aforementioned yacht was built in 1939. This Robbe & Berking Sphinx 12mR Yacht has been completely refurbished since 2005 after undergoing several ownership changes.
This beautiful automobile honors the boat in commemoration of the 150th year of its manufacture. In typical Maybach style, the four-door vehicle features some unique interior and exterior accents. Like other nautical-inspired vehicles, the S-Class is a stunning work of art, and its nautical theme is evident in some of its components.
Its exterior features a two-tone paint job. Patagonia Red is used on the bottom and Nautical Blue Metallic on the upper. The latter shade comes from Mercedes’ personalization arm, Manufaktur. The yacht’s white waterline is matched by a filigree pinstripe in Manufaktur Opalite White Metallic, which divides the two colors.
When the door is opened, the opulent interior is revealed with additional Manufaktur details. Among them are the diamond-quilted Manufaktur Exclusive Nappa leather upholstery and the Crystal White appearance. This document presents the headliner, door cards, seats, and other parts. Additionally, there is decorative stitching in Orion gray on the deck, and many cockpit components are decorated with wood walnut trim with light-colored aluminum accents.
The luxury section of the three-star company is also mentioned, with individual rear Nappa leather cushions, Maybach embossing, backlit side sills, and an extensive equipment selection. This includes a cooling compartment with two silver-plated champagne flutes, an MBUX rear-seat entertainment system, a Burmester high-end sound system, and other features that users of the car will undoubtedly love.
This customized vehicle is based on the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 and features a spectacular V12 engine – an engine that is part of a rapidly vanishing breed. The 6.0-liter handmade engine produces 621 horsepower (630 PS/463 kW) at 2,000-4,000 rpm and 664 pound-feet (900 Nm) of torque at 5,250-5,500 rpm. It also has two turbos.
Remarkably, the carmaker claims that 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprints take just 4.5 seconds, even for a vehicle weighing 5,346 pounds (2,425 kilograms). Fuel efficiency, which is rated at 12 mpg (19.6 l/100 km) in the city and 20 mpg-US (11.8 l/100 km) on the highway, is not a concern for those who can afford such a ride. The S 680 is equipped with the brand’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system and a 9-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to this model, Mercedes-Maybach also offers the S 580 4Matic configuration, priced starting at $234,300. The latter comes with a 4.0L V8 with twin turbos that deliver 516 pound-feet (700 Nm) of torque at 2,000 to 4,000 rpm and 496 horsepower (503 ps/370 kW) at 5,500 rpm. This ride is two-tenths slower from 0 to 60 mph and weighs 5,236 (2,375 kg). The S 580 has a starting price of $198,300 in the US.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class lineup has another six-banger; it’s marketed as the S 480. Unfortunately, because it’s only available in China, this version can’t be found in Western markets. The S 580e completes the lineup with its own six-pot, albeit with electric assistance. With a total output of 503 horsepower (510 ps/375 kW) and 553 pound-feet (750 Nm) of torque, the powertrain can reach a top speed of 250 kph (155 mph) and 0–62 mph (0–100 kph) in 5.1 seconds. The S 580 e has an electric range of 62 miles (100 km).
We would like to remind you that Mercedes-Maybach is going to add the SL to its lineup for the first time, taking it ahead of the S-Class, GLS, and EQS. Let’s call it a story and move on to the next issue. That’s right, the roadster developed by Mercedes-AMG will soon get a stunning makeover. It was recently captured by our spy photographers out in the open with updated front and rear ends as well as minor profile adjustments.
Its engine is not yet clear, but there are rumors that the Mercedes-Maybach SL will soon be available in S 580 and S 680 models, similar to the upscale S-Class. However, we don’t think the latter will have a V12; instead, it will likely use a bi-turbo V8, which is somewhat more powerful than the V8 in the lesser version.
The first Mercedes-Maybach SL Roadster is expected to go on sale in our market in 2024 or early next year, priced at over $200,000. In the US, the AMG SL 63, SL 55, and the four-pot SL 43 have starting prices of $187,000, $144,500, and $111,800, respectively. So, would you ever think of buying one?
